Fantastic find! This leather jacket was worn by a female in the Air Force during World War II. It is technically a men's jacket, as servicewomen were often issued the same uniform jackets as their male counterparts during this era. We know little about the woman who wore this, but she may have been a WASP. We do know she served as a nurse later in Korea, and then in Germany; she spent most of her career in the military. There is no identification in the jacket, though stitching holes at the left chest show where patches once were.
The jacket has snap-down lapels, epaulet style shoulders and a pair of flap-front waist pockets. There's a cotton canvas lining with leather hanging loop and ribbing to the waist & wrists.
Condition Detail: Shows its age, has been conditioned and cleaned, surface wear and mild scuffs throughout, very obvious flaking and surface cracks to right shoulder, minor holes to ribbing at waist and left wrist, five obvious white lines of paint to lower back and some to underside of lower sleeves; a few very minor marks in lining
Men's Size Small (Chest up to 39.5) Measurements Chest 37, Waist 32 to 34; Shoulder to Shoulder 15.5, Sleeve Length 24.25, Neck to Hem 24 Inches Label None, military issue, factory made Materials Dark brown leather, once glossy and now mostly matte, with a beautiful grain; brown cotton canvas lining Closure Center front metal zipper, made to separate at bottom Wear Recommendation Wearable Washing Instructions Clean by leather specialist
