1940s rayon dress is a splendid tartan plaid, made post-WWII with a fit & flare silhouette! It's definitely as is, with faded color from purple to pink (see Condition Detail below). Has cuffed short sleeves, a deep V-neck, and wrap style closure with its original glossy black patent belt. The perky taffeta modesty panel has its own buttoned front and quaint tie, and it's removable. From deadstock - no tag attached.

Due to the flaws, this dress would likely be best suited for remaking... the lines and fade suggest recreating it as a halter dress, including shortening the hem, which would be a terrific edit to this lovely authentic 40s dress.

Center front black plastic buttons, torso to hem, with snap at waist; modesty panel has functional rhinestone & silvertone metal buttons with a self tie at neck

Never worn but shows its age, as there is widespread fade from purple/green to magenta/gray at the sleeves, back neck, and hem of dress; collar and ties of modesty panel are beige with liquid lines at back neck; single hole at back left shoulder

Washing Instructions
Dry clean; or warm hand wash (test for shrinkage first), shape and dry flat, steam if needed or press inside out on medium setting
