Size 10 Novelty Print 1940s Hollywood Robe - Estate of Starlet Gladys Glad - Ziegfeld Follies Girl - 40s Chivalry Courtship Rayon - Bust 38

$ 395.00

An outstanding 1940s robe from the golden age of Hollywood! This novelty print rayon robe was custom made for Gladys Glad, a starlet of the 1930s who married producer Mark Hellinger in 1929 and starred as a Ziegfeld girl in 1931. This robe has a gorgeous line with oversized point lapels, a classic wrap front, and unfitted sleeves with broad cuffs. It's thin and silky, ankle length, with a right hip pocket and gossamer twill trim. Made between 1936 (when the Regine Brenner lingerie shop opened) and the early 1940s, meticulously finished by hand. Original self sash tie included.

Very nice considering its age and provenance, has mild yellowing from perspiration at the back of collar, under the arms, and hints of similar yellowing at the sleeve hems and cuffs, all hard to notice and especially obscured by the print; the left armhole seam has a subtle tack taken apparently to hide a hole, the right front hip has a single small pull in the fabric just above the pocket, the belt's twill trim has a dark brown mark about 1.5 inches in length about midway down its length

Washing Instructions
Dry clean, preferably by a cleaner experienced with vintage clothing

Please note: All measurements (bust - waist - hip) are the maximum body measurements that will fit the item. These measurements already have ease subtracted and they are not actual fabric widths.
