Mens Large 1940s Gabardine Coat - Exceptional 40s 50s Tan Wool Overcoat Outerwear - Convertible Flyer Label - Detachable Lining - Chest 44

$ 349.99

A fantastic 1940s style men's gabardine coat, called the "convertible flyer" sold at Saks' International Men's Shop. This coat looks like a late 40s design, likely made around 1955 as it was advertised at that time in the Chicago Tribune.

This exceptional tan overcoat is handsomely tailored and includes its original button-out wool lining. The coat has a notched lapel and tabbed wrists with hand-sewn pick-stitching, two buttoned waist pockets, and a center back vent. Coat itself is half-lined in satin with a single chest pocket to the interior, meticulously finished by hand.

The button-out wool lining was made to be worn as a lining, but also as a robe worn alone. The layered look was a marketing idea for the man who travels, but wants to pack lightly... essentially allowing the traveler to wear his robe under his overcoat. The wool lining/robe has four button-top pockets to its exterior, and a glowing copper sharkskin half-lining with interior chest pockets. Button-out lining has an optional extra collar panel that functions as the robe's shawl collar, and also adds warmth to the coat's neckline. An amazing find!
