A 1950s princess coat, rare and wonderful to find in vivid red wool! This mid 50s overcoat has a high Peter Pan collar, dolman sleeves, and a wasp waist & full flared skirt with a ballerina-like silhouette. The princess seaming is twelve gores with hidden pockets at the hip and a gorgeous shotcloth lining, reinforced with grosgrain forked ribbon at the nipped waist lining.

Materials
Fire engine red wool coat fabric, feels like a boiled wool (probably a wool & synthetic blend) with a nubby pilled texture throughout, this pilled texture appears to be original; mauve pink-red and silvery-blue shotcloth taffeta lining; red grosgrain ribbon at waist lining

Matching red plastic buttons, neck to hip, with bound buttonholes

Lightly worn as evidenced by texture surface loss at the edges and areas of regular use (primarily around the buttonholes and edges of seams/hems) where the wool weave is exposed, this is noticeable but (in our opinion) good patina, has 3-4 small areas of sheared surface to the wool from moth damage; the hem has been sewn by hand suggesting it is not the original length; a few very mild seam stresses and a penpoint hole in the lining
