Size 6 1940s Suit - Brindled Brown 30s 40s Fleck Wool Jacket & Skirt Set - Sharp Tailoring - Long Peplum - Early Cloth Zipper - Waist 26

$ 189.99

A beautiful and unusual ladies' suit in brindled fleck tweed, with crisp tailoring and a chic design. This set includes an especially long jacket and matching A-line skirt. The jacket has a high notched lapel, long sleeves, and a nipped waist with three pockets set low at the peplum (the upper right pocket is functional). Jacket is fully lined and hand-finished. Matching skirt has a center back kick pleat and is unlined.

Though at first glance we thought this set was early 1950s, it's difficult to date due to contradicting details... the skirt has an original zipper that's an early one, cloth-covered metal by Waldes, and the National Recovery Board label to the jacket could be as early as 1934. The early wouldn't likely be wartime (1941 to 1945) as the jacket's elongated silhouette indicates no fabric rationing at the time. But the style of the "Brevity" label and the jacket buttons appear to be 1950s era, not something usually seen with a cloth zipper... though the buttons do seem to be replacements judging by the stitching. It's possible that this suit is post-1935 and pre-WWII, though more likely it's early 50s. But our "detective work" is not conclusive, and we'd love to see examples of other items with the satin brocade labels in this suit.
